What is Christmas in October?
While Jamaica is just a stone's throw away from our South Florida shores, getting a shipment of Christmas trees, toys and accessories through Jamaica Customs during the holiday season is a very challenging if not impossible proposition.
Simply put, our Christmas campaign ensures that needy children experience the joy and wonder of Christmas by soliciting donations of toys and accessories up to October 31 each year to guarantee timely delivery for Christmas.
Why is it necessary?
There are thousands of children living in State Institutions called 'Children's Homes' for whom the Christmas holiday season is a reminder of the absence of family, friends and loved ones.
In addition to those in Children's Homes, there are many other needy and neglected children living in sub-standard conditions throughout the island.
How Does It Work?
A number of needy children and institutions are identified by working with child-care administrators and stakeholders from the community.
Solicitation of toys and other Christmas related items kick into high gear on October 1 and terminate on October 31.
Cash donations are accepted beyond the October 31 deadline and throughout the holiday season. These cash gifts allow for the creation of festivities for the children.
All toys and Christmas items are shipped out no later than the second week in November to guarantee that they are available for Christmas.
